“Urban Lighthouse” is an innovative response to a competition, rethinking the traditional mobile antenna. The concept behind the structure is to transform what is typically a purely technical and functional element, such as an antenna, into an integrated and interactive resource for the community. This design combines telecommunications infrastructure with public service, offering a range of community functions while improving the urban experience. The goal is to promote a sustainable and versatile approach to urban furniture, making the antenna a functional yet visually iconic element in the cityscape.
“Urban Lighthouse” houses in the upper section Cellular antennas combo 4G/5G. The central part of the structure is dedicated to various ambient-intelligence functions and community services, offering an array of practical features for urban life. Public seating, smart information points, public restrooms, turn the structure into a multifunctional urban hub. The addition of integrated solar panels allows for the charging of electronic devices, while a rainwater collection system provides for water reuse, reducing environmental impact. Moreover, the structure features bird perches and micro-garden modules at its upper levels, offering safe resting areas for birds and contributing to the restoration of urban green corridors. A key aspect of the project is its modularity. The structure is composed of modular elements that can be configured and combined in different ways depending on the specific needs of the installation site. Each module has a different function, with the core module containing the Antennas and Radio devices, and additional modules providing various public services. These modules, connected at the base, feature varying heights, creating a vertical design that emphasizes an upward, sleek visual impact, transforming the antenna into a visually appealing and iconic element of urban architecture. The modular design allows the number of features to vary, adapting to the space and context where it is installed, making the “Urban Lighthouse” highly flexible and customizable.
